Conferences and Events

NHIVNA holds its Annual Conference traditionally in June. The conference serves as a forum for the very latest innovation and research in HIV nursing to be presented and discussed. In addition, members from across the UK have the opportunity to network and share ideas on the latest initiatives for best practice in the management of HIV. The Annual Conference venue rotates each year in order to try and give all members across the UK the opportunity to attend on a regular basis. Attendance at NHIVNA conference has grown rapidly over the past years and the event now attracts a broad spectrum of participants, from experienced HIV specialists to those still in training, along with those who provide support and care to the patient community.

The highlight of the Annual Conference of NHIVNA is the presentation of the latest clinical practice initiatives and research undertaken by nurses working in HIV centres across the UK. Abstract submissions are invited for presentation at the conference and are considered by an Abstract Review Committee, whose members are selected from the Executive Committee of NHIVNA. Abstracts accepted for presentations at the conference (both oral and poster) are published in a supplement to HIV Nursing, the NHIVNA journal.

In addition, NHIVNA has recently piloted a series of Study Days both in London and key regional destinations around the UK. The Study Days are designed to be interactive workshop style meetings providing delegates with the practical skills to implement the recently launched NHIVNA Nursing Competencies. Feedback from these meetings has proved very positive, and as such the programme has become an integral part of the NHIVNA conference calendar.

In 2009, NHIVNA set up a dedicated Conference Subcommittee to care for the arrangements of the conference and to formulate a programme that catered for the needs of delegates. This subcommittee has invited local representation from members of the host city in order to provide the conference programme with a local feel and to assist in the sourcing of the best local venues and services at conference.
