Role with the NHIVNA Executive Committee
My role as Chair within NHIVNA includes chairing the executive committee meetings, the annual NHIVNA away day and planning session. I am responsible for approving the minutes and agenda’s of these meetings. My role is also to chair the annual conference.

On a day to day level I liase with the NHIVNA sponsors, secretariat, and executive committee members and associated agencies and organisations.

I am also involved with a number of sub committees and this often is in the form of teleconferences related to the study day programme, Annual conference and National HIV competencies, Governance working party, judging the annual Awards including the inaugural Nicky Perry Award. I am also involved in reviewing scholarship applications.

I also represent NHIVNA within BHIVA and provide consultation and feedback on behalf of NHIVNA to other agencies i.e. MHRA

Brenda Mann
I am a senior Clinical Nurse Specialist and Nurse Manager for HIV in East Kent, my role will also fairly soon include the responsibilities of locality manager for Sexual Health.

The HIV Service in East Kent is managed by Eastern and Coastal Kent Primary Care Trust, however the service provided is seamless across hospital and community.

Role with the NHIVNA Executive Committee
I am the Treasurer but my interests are in clinical supervision and support for nurses working within HIV. I am a newly qualified Independent and Supplementary Nurse Prescriber and hence am keen to both develop this role as well as support other colleagues.

Eileen Nixon
I am a HIV Nurse Consultant post responsible for establishing and delivering nurse-led HIV patient care to maximize patient access and increase capacity within HIV services at Brighton and Sussex University Hospitals in line with relevant generic and specialist policy goals. In addition the post is responsible for implementing HIV clinical pathways across Brighton and Sussex University Hospitals and for establishing a strategy for cohesive nursing practice across the planned HIV Managed Service Network in Surrey, Sussex and Kent. I am an honorary lecturer at the University of Brighton and actively involved in the planning and delivery of specialist HIV nursing courses.

Role with the NHIVNA Executive Committee
I am Projects officer on the NHINVA Executive Committee and at present I am leading on the continuing development of the HIV Nursing Competencies. This involves implementation of the competency agenda for NHIVNA study days and NHIVNA Conference and co-ordination and dissemination of competency examples in practice.

Jane Bruton
I am the Clinical Nurse Lead for HIV at Chelsea and Westminster NHS Foundation Trust. I have managerial and professional responsibility for the nurses working within HIV outpatients, Day Care and Inpatients, the specialist nurses, women’s health advisors and more recently one CNS in the community. I have both an operational and strategic role with regard to service provision and future developments. In addition I have lead responsibility within the directorate for patient involvement, clinical governance and the development of HIV nursing roles.

Role with the NHIVNA Executive Committee
I am new this year to the NHIVNA executive committee. I have been a member of the editorial board of HIV Nursing for several years however my main role on the committee is the lead alongside Eileen Nixon for Projects. This could be anything that the executive decides to take forward which is very exciting. I am part of the organising committee for the conference this year in Glasgow.

Catrin Evans
I’m a Lecturer in Nursing and International Health at Nottingham University. I am Deputy Director of our M.Sc. Advanced Nursing programme and am involved in teaching HIV, sexual health, public health/health promotion and evidence based practice on a number of pre- and post-registration programmes. Another part of my role involves supervising PhD and MSc student dissertations, many of which are focused on HIV-related topics. I’ve been involved in HIV nursing since qualifying in 1990 and have worked in the U.K., Germany, India, Nepal and Thailand. Much of this latter work abroad was as a consultant with international health and HIV agencies, and involved research and policy analysis related to community-based HIV prevention initiatives.

Role with the NHIVNA Executive Committee
As Education Officer within NHIVNA, my role is to contribute to the development and evaluation of NHIVNA’s educational and research activities.

Jane Kennedy
I am a Consultant Midwife-Public Health at Homerton University Hospital NHS Foundation Trust, London U.K.

Prior to this post, I was employed at Guys & St Thomas Hospital Trust, London from 1989-2000 as a midwife/HIV counselor. I had one of the first such posts in the country and was responsible for developing the antenatal testing service for HIV infection for women and developed expertise in this field. As well as providing clinical care for HIV positive pregnant women and their families I have developed an extensive teaching commitment to multi- disciplinary and multi-agency audiences, conference presentations and working with the Royal College of Midwives on training seminars and policy guidance. During this time I co-authored a number of articles and published the book HIV & Pregnancy in 2003.

I am the midwifery member of the Department of Health UK advisory panel for healthcare workers infected with blood borne viruses.

Role with the NHIVNA Executive Committee
I became the midwifery officer on the NHIVNA executive committee in 2007. My midwifery practice focuses on the provision of care and service development for pregnant women with special social or psychological needs and teenage mothers. I work closely with specialist midwives with a specific public health remit within their roles including Sure Start/children centre midwives and specialist midwives including those for HIV infection, substance misuse, and haemaglobinopathies. I am consulted on issues relating to the maternity public health profile for the wider children and families’ agenda and developing skills with a multi-agency workforce and I am an honorary lecturer at City University, London.

Zoë Sheppard
I have been working in HIV and Sexual health (Family Planning and GUM) for 15 years in a variety of hospitals across London and am currently the HIV ward manager at St Mary’s Hospital. I have managerial and organisational responsibility for the delivery of specialist HIV nursing services within the day care and outpatient unit. In addition the post requires me to be a professional role model, leading, co-ordinating and inspiring the department team. This is both in providing direct and indirect clinical care, teaching and research within ward / department team on all matters relating to HIV nursing.

Role with the NHIVNA Executive Committee
I have been fortunate to sit on the NHIVNA Executive Committee twice and am currently the Editorial officer for the Organisation. This role involves taking the lead with Mediscript in the publication of HIV Nursing both in co-ordinating meetings amongst the other editors, setting the themes for the publication and contacting writers of the articles. I have also taken a pro-active role over the last two years in the NHIVNA study days. Writing speaker briefs, liaising with the speakers and chairing the days themselves.
